Every officer will eventually have to go hands-on. I’ve seen many officers retire without ever firing their weapon, but I’ve never met one who didn’t have to physically control a subject at some point. If we know physical confrontation is likely, why wouldn’t we prepare for it? A regular gym gives you athleticism, but not the job-specific skills you need on duty. Law enforcement training must be technically specific, aligned with agency policy, and — above all — simple and effective under stress.
